Haven't heard anything in a while. I'm hoping you still have my correct address. Let me know what's up. I don't think the tone was necessarily as overwrought as you may have read it.

Re: Atyrau, Dossor (August 6, 2011)

First, cheers for the reply, second, I apologise for the hostile comment. It came to me in a burst of silly indignation. I should be clear that I didn't object to the subject matter per se. I think traffic, potholes, border crossings et al potentially make fine, engaging topics. Perhaps my poorly communicated point was that these things are all incidental to the type of travel you were doing, and by elevating them to humorless poetic angst, you risk cheapening the innate drama of what you have been lucky enough to undertake. Travel, even "rough" adventuresome travel such as this, truly is a the privilege of remarkably few people on the planet, and perhaps I feel that discomfort and difficulty come with the territory, and possibly aren't worth the woe-is-me treatment they got here. I'm sorry. I realise what a bore I now sound like in telling you how you should recount your story. I will close by saying that I genuinely love your project, and I was only commenting on my own very personal reaction to one small part of it.

Re: Atyrau, Dossor (August 6, 2011)

Point taken, Filmason, and we will keep in it mind moving forward.

But also keep in mind that when you drive 10+ hours hours a day for 6 weeks, the only thing really going on in your life is traffic, potholes, border crossings and listening to the same albums over and over on the ipod. 95% of the time, there isn't much going on, and we were just struggling to get from A to B. Definitely not glamorous, I know. That's life driving a small car for 10,000 miles in a short period of time.

We had envisioned this blog as a re-cap of each day. But most days, there's little to highlight. Perhaps we should cut off the day-to-day blog posts and just stick to the interesting stuff, and those with audio accompaniment? Maybe less words more pictures. Everyone likes camel pictures, right? We've got loads to share.

We appreciate the feedback, and hope to receive more!

Re: Atyrau, Dossor (August 6, 2011)

This is privileged Western travel blogging of the worst kind. I've followed and enjoyed many of your tales about what seems like a brilliant opportunity for a brilliant journey, but I was a bit put off by this whinging about communication difficulties and traffic jams. You've driven a car across the world. Of course you were caught in traffic sometimes! Of course you struggled to communicate! How is this worth telling us about? I've traveled a fair amount in some fairly remote places. I hope you get back to telling us more of the sounds you heard, of the characters you met and the bits and pieces you learned, not this admittedly eloquent but boring rubbish!
